The music of composer Jessie Montgomery is “turbulent, wildly colorful, and exploding with life” (The Washington Post), and is performed regularly by leading orchestras and ensembles around the globe. Winner of the 2024 Grammy Award for Best Classical Composition and Musical America’s 2023 Composer of the Year, the Juilliard-trained violinist is immersed in a diverse range of projects, including The Everything Band—a collective of artists of varying styles creating music by experimentation, improvisation, and open-ended form. Montgomery performs alongside the ensemble for this Portrait, featuring a newly commissioned work and the joyful and ebullient Strum for string quartet.

Owls are an exciting new quartet collective (violinist Alexi Kenney, violist Ayane Kozasa, cellist Gabriel Cabezas, and cellist-composer Paul Wiancko) that shatters all expectations and throws labels out the window with their unmissable, lively, and deeply personal performances. The New York Times dubs them a “dream group,” and you’ll see why as they perform originals and arrangements ranging from the 1600s to today. With their unique instrumentation and exhilarating new sounds, you are guaranteed a performance that is unique and limitless.

After two seasons of drag shows, dance performances, and deep dives into The Met’s collection, Catalyst Quartet makes its long-awaited debut at The Met Cloisters, finishing its historic two-season Met residency with yet another powerhouse collaboration—this time featuring cellist Gabriel Cabezas, whom the Chicago Tribune has heralded as “nothing short of brilliant.” Jorge Amado Molina’s Relatos mágicos, commissioned by and dedicated to Catalyst and Cabezas, anchors an electrifying program of music by Cuban and Cuban American composers. Works by Latin jazz icon Paquito D’Rivera and Pulitzer Prize-winner Tania León complete the performance.
